It’s a good one for non-standard relationship styles too. You don’t have to split hairs trying to explain “well, it’s more serious than ‘boyfriend’ or 'girlfriend’, but we don’t have any intention of getting married ever. Or "we live together and are planning our lives together to some extent but it’s not a romantic thing” and so on.
